Writing Paper

What Is Writing Paper

As indicated by its name, the primary use of this paper is in writing and printing. Internationally, it is also referred to as “Writing and printing paper,” confirming its intended applications. This type of paper, commonly used by various individuals in their daily lives, is specifically designed for writing and printing, with a structure that allows for effective writing or printing on both sides without ink permeating through to the other side.

Types of Writing Paper

Writing paper comes in two types: coated and uncoated. Coated writing paper enables double-sided printing without ink penetration to the other side. This is why it is often used for internal pages in digital book printing.

Key features and advantages of writing paper include high resistance, bright colors, long-term durability, and a wide range of grammage options. Grammage refers to the mass per unit area of the paper, and increasing it results in thicker paper. Writing paper is commonly produced in dimensions such as 100 × 70 and 60 × 90, with grammages ranging from 50 to 120. Each size and grammage combination serves different purposes in production and consumption.

The permissible amount of mechanical pulp (if present) in writing paper should not exceed 10% of the total volume. Additionally, depending on the type of pulp used, writing paper can be either white or cream-colored. Colored writing papers are initially white and undergo colorization through various processes, including the application of dyes or pigments.

Thinner writing papers can be directly colored or receive an initial coating before the application of the main coating. Art papers are essentially multiple-coated writing papers, sometimes undergoing up to three coating processes.
